HC Deb 08 November 1928 vol 222 c200
17. Mr. HAYES

asked the Home Secretary whether it is proposed to reorganise the detective services of New Scotland Yard; whether any new or additional appointments are to be made; and, if so, whether such appointments will be made from within the police service.

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

No proposals for the reorganisation of the Criminal Investigation Department have been before me, and I know of no impending staff changes apart from those consequent upon the retirement of Sir Wyndham Childs, in regard to which no decision has yet been taken.

Mr. HAYES

Before a decision is arrived at, will due regard be had to the number of officers available for the appointment?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I need hardly say that in appointments of this kind I am passing in review every available name and seeking to get the best man for the post.
