HC Deb 08 November 1928 vol 222 cc207-8
31. Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Minister of Health whether he has received letters from the Newport and other boards of guardians protesting against paragraph 13 of the First Schedule to the Rating and Valuation Act, 1925, which prevents members from receiving their out-of-pocket expenses when attending meetings of the county valuation committees; and will he take steps to empower guardians to pay such expenses to their representatives when attending these committees?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir. I have received resolutions to the effect stated in the hon. Member's question. The resolutions relate to one particular instance of what is a general question, and, as I explained when the Rating and Valuation Bill was before the House, the point is not one which can be dealt with solely in relation to the expenses of members of authorities constituted under that Act.
