HC Deb 23 May 1928 vol 217 cc1852-3
9. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any British subjects suffered in the bombardment of Tsinanfu and the burning of public buildings by the Japanese troops; and whether he has received any later information to show any antagonism against British interests in Northern China on the part of either of the two contending Chinese parties?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

So far as I am aware, British subjects did not suffer any damage during the recent hostilities at Tsinanfu; a telegram from His Majesty's 'Consul-General there reports that they are all safe. None of the reports which I have received relative to the present situation indicate the existence of any antagonism against British interests on the part of any of the contending parties in China.
