asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department if he has any figures showing what were the amounts of English and foreign rails used on the South African railways in each of the eight years 1920 to 1927?

I have had a statement prepared showing the value of imports of heavy rails into the Union of South Africa during the years 1920 to 1926. Figures for 1927 are not yet available. During the seven years 1920 to 1926, the total imports of heavy rails into the Union on both Govern- ment and private account were valued at £2,351,228, of which £1,146,302 came from the United Kingdom.
