HC Deb 16 May 1928 vol 217 c1021
28. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons over 18 years of age made a claim before 19th April last to be exempted for 12 months from the new 30 contributions condition under The Unemployment Insurance Act, 1927?

Mr. BETTERTON

I presume that my hon. Friend is referring to the transitional provisions in Section 14 of the Act. These provisions are operative without the need for any special application by the claimant, and I have no statistics as to the numbers affected.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Are we to understand that applicants for unemployment pay are notified as to this period of 12 months when they make their applications?

Mr. BETTERTON

Yes, Sir, I think that that is so.
