HC Deb 15 May 1928 vol 217 c830
10. Mr. L'ESTRANGE MALONE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his department is aware of the serious world shortage of leather; and if His Majesty's Government intend to take any action?

Mr. WILLIAMS

I understand that there has been a decrease in the supply of hides consequent on a decline in the numbers of cattle slaughtered in certain foreign countries, but I do not think His Majesty's Government can usefully take any action in the matter.
