HC Deb 14 May 1928 vol 217 c638
2. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he has any information regarding the release of a man named Bannerjee, under sentence of five years' rigorous imprisonment, by the Punjab Government; and whether he has any statement to make on this point?

Earl WINTERTON

I have no information beyond what has appeared in the Press.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the Noble Lord aware that it is believed in the Punjab that this man was employed in the rule of agent provocateur, and will he make inquiries to find out if such is or is not the fact?

Earl WINTERTON

No doubt my Noble Friend will in clue course receive information from the Government of India as to what has happened in this case.
