HC Deb 09 May 1928 vol 217 c202
9. Mr. MALONE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information to impart to the House regarding the negotiations which have recently taken place between this country and Afghanistan?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I did not conduct any negotiations with King Amanulla or his Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs during the recent Royal visit to this country. I did, however, have an opportunity of discussing with His Majesty and His Excellency the general question of Anglo-Afghan relations and of explaining that the earnest wish of His Majesty's Government is to see a strong and an independent Afghanistan.

Mr. MALONE

Are any negotiations in progress with a view to the removal of the restriction on imports through India?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I think conversations on the matter have been proceeding, and no doubt they will be continued.
