HC Deb 01 May 1928 vol 216 c1495
58. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Minister of Pensions if he can now make any statement as to the possibility of stabilising existing pensions, and thereby effecting material reductions in the cost of administration?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of PENSIONS (Lieut.-Colonel Stanley)

The cost of administration has been and is being reduced in the direction indicated by my hon. Friend by means of final awards, by reduction of the number of medical examinations and by otherwise curtailing, as far as possible, the review of all classes of pension. For the information of my hon. Friend, I may say that the cost of administration has, in fact, been reduced from 15d. in the £ of benefits in 1920 to 5½d. in the £ in the current year.
