Mr. DALTONasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Convention between Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, and Turkey respecting the free navigation of the Suez Canal, signed at Constantinople on 29th October, 1888, is still in force; and whether its provisions have been modified by any subsequent international agreements?
§ Sir A. CHAMBERLAINYes, Sir, the Convention of 1888 is still in force, subject to the modifications made when His Majesty's Government adhered to its stipulations in 1904 and those which result from the termination of Turkish suzerainty over Egypt.
