HC Deb 26 March 1928 vol 215 cc793-4
12. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps have been taken under the British Emancipation Act to liberate the slaves in the Sierra Leone Protectorate?

Mr. AMERY

I presume the hon. Member refers to the Abolition of Slavery Act, 1833. That Act applied to British Colonies but not to protectorates. Slavery in the Sierra Leone Protectorate has now been completely abolished. Full details are given in the White Paper Cmd. 3020, published last January.
