HC Deb 22 March 1928 vol 215 cc531-2
2. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Pensions the number of pensioners affected by the new method of weekly payment of pensions recently introduced by his Department?

Major TRYON

The total number of pensioners who will hold pension order books under the new scheme is slightly more than 1,000,000, representing, approximately, 1,500,000 beneficiaries.

Mr. DAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what will be the saving owing to the issue of these books?

Major TRYON

It is estimated that over £100,000 a year will be saved by the new procedure, mostly in the expendi- ture of the Post Office. At the same time, it is believed that it will be a great convenience to pensioners.
