HC Deb 20 March 1928 vol 215 c207
37. Mr. MacLAREN

asked the Postmaster-General the hours during which the telephone operators, women and girls, are expected to remain on duty at the Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, automatic telephone exchange?

Sir W. MITCHELL- THOMSON

Female telephonists at the Hanley exchange are employed normally only at hours between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., but occasionally, in consequence of a temporary shortage of male night staff, their attendance has been extended on overtime up to 10 p.m. I am making inquiry to see whether these occasional late attendances can be obviated.

Mr. MacLAREN

Has the Postmaster-General received notice that some of these girls have been subject to hysterical fits as the result of these long hours?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

No, I have not.
