HC Deb 20 March 1928 vol 215 c200
25. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Transport whether the London Traffic Advisory Committee have considered the introduction of the roundabout one-way traffic system at the Elephant and Castle, in the borough of Southwark; and whether he can state what decision has been arrived at?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

The Committee have considered this matter and have advised me that it would not be practicable to operate a roundabout one-way traffic system at the Elephant and Castle for a variety of reasons, and that the best method of affording relief would be to provide alternative routes enabling traffic to by-pass this congested point. A start has already been made in this direction by widening Harper Street and Union Street and negotiations are proceeding with a view to further improvements.
