HC Deb 06 March 1928 vol 161 c224
34. Mr. EMLYN-JONES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will state the reason for the withdrawal of the Government grant from cadet corps; what was the expenditure involved and whether, in view of the educational and national value of the movement, he will reconsider the matter?

Lieut.-Colonel GUINNESS

I would refer the hon. Member to my replies of a week ago. I much regret that I am not able to reconsider the decision.

Mr. BRIANT

Can my hon. and gallant Friend promise to give any assistance in the direction of equipment?

Lieut.-Colonel GUINNESS

The grant of equipment has only been sanctioned for one year.

Mr. BRIANT

Can the Under-Secretary say exactly what that means? Does it mean for this year?

Lieut.-Colonel GUINNESS

Yes: it means for this year, at a cost of about £10,000.
