HC Deb 06 March 1928 vol 161 cc245-6
57. Mr. HANNON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has had any estimates prepared showing the probable increase in the consumption of beer which would result from the reduction of the present duty on beer equivalent to 2d. per pint and 1d. per pint, respectively; and to what extent the reduction would affect the Exchequer if no increase in the consumption of beer took place and if the increase in consumption which he has estimated as a consequence of the reduction of duty took place, respectively?

Captain KING

My right hon. Friend could not undertake to put forward estimates of this kind in advance of the relevant Budget Debates.
