HC Deb 01 March 1928 vol 214 cc588-9
35. Mr. DAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he has any information to show that smuggling on the South-East Coast of England is on the increase; and whether his Department is taking any active steps for its reduction?

Mr. SAMUEL

There are no grounds for thinking that smuggling is on the increase in the area referred to. It would be against the public interest to indicate the measures taken by the Customs authorities to frustrate attempts at smuggling.
