HC Deb 21 June 1928 vol 218 c1738
19. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Health the names of the approved societies that do not give additional benefits and the number of members affected; and whether he has under consideration any action having for its object the granting of equal benefit to all persons compulsorily insured?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Mr. Chamberlain)

I do not think it desirable to include in a public statement the names of the societies and branches which are not giving additional benefits. The number of such societies and branches in England and Wales is 297, namely, 22 societies and 275 branches, with a total membership of 317,389. I may add that 923 societies and 6,156 branches, with a total membership of 13,015,180, are providing additional benefits. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.

Mr. HARRIS

Would it not be useful information to insured persons to know what societies give the best benefits?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Insured societies take pare that insured persons do know that.
