HC Deb 21 June 1928 vol 218 cc1741-2
24. Mr. GROVES

asked the Minister of Health if he has received overtures from certain local authorities appealing to him to amend Section 1 of the Blind Persons Act, 1920, so as to provide for the payment of pensions to the unemploy- able blind at 30 years of age instead of 50 years of age; and whether he is prepared to accept such proposal?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative and to the second part in the negative. I may, however, add that I have requested the Advisory Committee on the Welfare of the Blind to investigate the whole question of assistance to the unemployable blind and have issued a circular to the appropriate local authorities asking for certain information desired by the Committee for the purpose.
