HC Deb 18 June 1928 vol 218 cc1402-3
11. Mr. COUPER

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether there is any register of oil resources in various parts of the Empire; and, if not, if it is proposed to have a survey undertaken of the territories where oil is available or believed to be available?

Mr. AMERY

The answer to the first part of my hon. Friend's question is in the negative; as regards the second part, such surveys have been undertaken in several parts of the Empire, and have no reason to doubt that further surveys will be undertaken as occasion arises.

Mr. HURD

Has my right hon. Friend called the attention of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the great oil resources in various parts of the Empire and their potential value, and asked him whether he could not see his way to further their development by bringing the new Petrol Duty under the Pre- ference policy? Will he take the opportunity of calling the attention of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to this fact?

Mr. AMERY

That would mean legislation.
