HC Deb 12 June 1928 vol 218 cc807-8
50. Mr. FENBY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been drawn to the examination of Continental visitors to this country and of British tourists returning to this country; and whether he can see his way to issue instructions to exempt from Import Duties some reasonable minimum of articles either actually worn or intended for personal use in this country?

Mr. SAMUEL

Subject to certain conditions necessary in the interests of the revenue, Customs officers are already authorised to pass, free of duty, limited quantities of dutiable articles brought by passengers arriving in this country from abroad, provided that such articles are duly declared and are intended for their own personal use.
