HC Deb 05 July 1928 vol 219 c1545
10. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Home Secretary whether his, attention has been drawn to the recent cases in the county courts against tea-bonus firms and to the remarks of the judges in some of the cases; and whether it is now intended to take public action against any of these firms?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I am aware that county court proceedings have been taken successfully against certain firms, but so far as the cases that have occurred in the Metropolitan Police District are concerned, I am advised that criminal proceedings for fraud would not be successful.

Mr. MORRISON

Has the Home Secretary any power in regard to cases outside the Metropolitan Police area?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

None whatever. It is a matter for the local police or the watch committee.
