HC Deb 02 July 1928 vol 219 cc978-9
52. Sir R. GOWER

asked the Home Secretary if the whole or any part of the expenses incurred by the watch committee of the borough of St Helens in connection with the inquiry ordered by him into their relations with the chief constable of St. Helens are payable by the ratepayers of St. Helens, or if the whole or any part of the cost of that inquiry will be charged to public funds?

The cost of the inquiry, including the expenses of the watch committee, will be chargeable to the local police fund and will be treated, for purposes of the usual Exchequer subventions, as part of the cost of administration of the force.
