HC Deb 28 February 1928 vol 214 cc219-20
64. Mr. BECKETT

asked the Minister of Health the number of persons in the town of Gateshead in receipt of relief from the Poor Law guardians on 1st February, 1927 and 1928, respectively?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

Separate information is not available as regards the town of Gateshead, but the total number of persons in receipt of Poor Law relief (excluding lunatics in asylums, casuals and persons receiving domiciliary medical relief only) in the Gateshead Union, on 29th January, 1927, was 17,065, and on the 28th January, 1928, 20,043.

Mr. BECKETT

Do I understand that it is not possible to obtain from the guardians any distinction between the people in the town and all the people who come under the Poor Law guardians?

Sir K. WOOD

I think the information is not available to the Department.
