HC Deb 27 February 1928 vol 214 cc30-1
82. H. Mr. GRIFFITHS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of persons at all ages, over 60 and over 65, in receipt of Civil Service pensions; the cost of such pensions; and whether any estimate is available as to future numbers and cost?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Arthur Michael Samuel)

The statistics asked for are not available, and their compilation would entail considerable expense. I would, however, refer the hon. Member to the written answer which I am circulating to-day in reply to a question by the hon. Member for the Elland Division (Mr. Robinson). It contains information as to the total number of Civil Service pensioners and the total cost of their pensions.

Mr. GRIFFITHS

Is there any source from which there figures can be obtained?

Mr. SAMUEL

It would entail a great amount of labour and a great deal of expense in getting out the figures.
