HC Deb 18 December 1928 vol 223 c2811
61. Mr. L'ESTRANGE MALONE

asked the Postmaster-General 'whether the British Broadcasting Corporation obtained his approval before deciding on the purchase of new premises; and, if so, whether the question of a national opera house as part of the scheme was considered?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

This matter was dealt with by the British Broadcasting Corporation under the general powers which have been conferred upon them, and it was not necessary for them to obtain my approval. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the individual who desires to promote a British opera house has stated that no Member of this House or of the other place possesses any knowledge of music?
