HC Deb 17 December 1928 vol 223 cc2623-4
57. Mr. STEPHEN (for Mr. BUCHANAN)

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that wages and hours in the catering trades are at present both low and long, and that this particularly applies to young women; and if he will consider taking steps to bring them under the operation of the Trade Boards Act?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I cannot add to the reply which I gave to a question on this subject by my hon. Friend the Member for the Sutton division of Plymouth (Viscountess Astor) on 8th November, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy.

Mr. STEPHEN

Am I to take it that the Minister of Labour is not going to do anything on behalf of these men?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I propose to do exactly what is indicated in that answer.
