60. Major - General Sir ROBERT HUTCHISONasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what reductions, if any, in the higher posts of the Civil Service are contemplated?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Arthur Michael Samuel)The extent to which it may prove possible to reduce the number of the higher posts of the Civil Service will depend on the future course of legislation and policy. The necessity for such post, as of all other posts, is under constant scrutiny with a view to economies wherever practicable.
§ Sir R. HUTCHISONIs it the hon. Gentleman's intention to consider a reduction in the higher ranks in the Civil Service, as opposed to the continued reductions of the lower ranks?
§ Mr. SAMUELWe take everything into consideration. There is no favouritism about the matter.
