HC Deb 10 December 1928 vol 223 c1671
5. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent the duties have lately been raised on the importation of intoxicating liquors to the Gold Coast and Togoland; and whether he has any further information he can give the House with reference to increasing the fees payable for separate licences or reducing the hours of consumption.

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Amery)

The duties on imported spirits were recently raised from 25s. to 27s. 6d. per gallon. A committee was appointed by the Governor to consider the question of the sale of spirits and has recently made various proposals. I am not aware whether these proposals have been carried into effect and I am in correspondence with the Governor on the subject.

Mr. DAY

When does the right hon. Gentleman hope to get a reply: and when will he give the House the information?

Mr. AMERY

The hon. Member had better ask a question later.
