§ 8. Mr. DUCKWORTHasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he can make any statement as to the progress of negotiations for recognition of the Nationalist government of China by this country and as to the question of the interim tariff?
§ Sir A. CHAMBERLAINI have received no intimation that the Chinese Government are preparing to exercise tariff autonomy on the 1st January. As the negotiations with the Chinese Government in regard to the conclusion of a treaty dealing with tariff matters are still in progress, I regret that I cannot add anything to the statements on this question made in this House on the 14th and 28th November. As regards consultation with other Powers, I would refer to the reply I returned on this subject on the 28th November.
