HC Deb 03 December 1928 vol 223 c811
8. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he proposes to introduce a Bill this Session to deal with the question of colonial governors' pensions in conformity with the Report of the Buxton Committee, the conclusions of which it is understood he has accepted; and whether, if the introduction of the Bill has to be postponed, he is prepared to make the Act retrospective from the date of his reception of the Report of the Committee or some other similar date, in order to protect the interests of those governors who between that date and the passing of the Bill may leave the service?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Amery)

Yes, Sir, I hope to introduce at an early date a Bill to give effect to the recommendations of the Committee referred to. It is intended that the Act should be retrospective as from the date of the Committee's Report.
