HC Deb 30 April 1928 vol 216 cc1323-4
23. Sir W. DAVISON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he can assure the House that in all contracts involving the supply of timber to his Department the specification shall provide that only British Imperial woods shall be supplied?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Lieut.-Colonel Sir Vivian Henderson)

While I am unable to give an undertaking that British Empire timber will be used in every case in which building work is undertaken by the Office of Works, I am glad to be able to assure my hon. Friend that as a general rule only British Empire timber will be specified for carpenters' and joiners' work in Office of Works building contracts.
