HC Deb 25 April 1928 vol 216 c900
22. Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary for Mines the number and names of mines that were working in Stirlingshire and Mid and East Lothian, respectively, in 1921 that are now closed down?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Commodore Douglas King)

Of the coal mines which were working in Stirlingshire in 1921, 21, employing 3,440 persons, are now closed. Similarly, four mines, employing 850 persons, in Edinburgh are now closed, and six, employing 1,450 persons, in Haddington. I will send the hon. Member a list of them.

Mr. PALING

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman in a position now to issue the full terms of the new agreement that has just come into operation, and which is partly responsible for this closing down?

Commodore KING indicated dissent.
