HC Deb 25 April 1928 vol 216 c892
2. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received copies of any resolutions passed by the British community at Tientsin protesting against the rendition of the British concession to Chinese control; and whether the British Government are taking any further steps to give effect to these protests?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer the honourable Member to the reply given to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Hitchin (Major Kindersley) on 23rd April.

Mr. DAY

Is it not a fact that rendition will cause enormous loss to our nationals and will not give genuine satisfaction to anybody?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not think that exactly arises out of the question the hon. Member has put on the Paper, and perhaps it; would be better if he would give me notice of it. In the meantime, I am much interested in the indication of his opinion as to what our policy in China should be.

Colonel GRETTON

Has my right hon. Friend any recent report of the results upon the local administration of handing over to the Chinese?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

The concession has not been handed over.
