HC Deb 11 April 1928 vol 162 c1199
39. Mr. T. THOMSON

asked the Minister of Health if he will favourably consider taking powers in his new Housing Bill whereby empty dwelling-houses may be both rated and taxed so long as they are withheld from occupation?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Mr. Neville Chamberlain)

I have carefully considered this suggestion, but. I cannot undertake to introduce legislation for the purpose in view.

Mr. THOMSON

Cannot the right hon. Gentleman suggest some other means whereby use may be made of unoccupied houses?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I shall have a proposal to make in the course of this Session with a view to making use of them.
