HC Deb 03 April 1928 vol 215 cc1785-6
36. Mr. WALTER BAKER

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory condition of the West Street Post Office, Bristol, and with regard to the negotiations now proceeding with a view to the occupation of a shop at No. 58, West Street, Bristol, which is only 14 feet wide, and 21 feet 6 inches long, situated in unpleasant proximity to a skin yard; whether his Department has received an offer of a suitable site for a new office; and whether, having regard to the importance of this office in the interests of the public, he will order an inquiry into the whole question of adequate accommodation in this area?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I am aware that the conditions at the West Street Post Office, Bristol, are not satisfactory. The position is at present the subject of an inquiry, and I will communicate with the hon. Member shortly.

Mr. BAKER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that three suitable sites have been offered, and that there should be no difficulty in finding satisfactory accommodation?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I cannot say that I am aware that three sites have been offered, but I am aware that there have been offers of two.
