§ 24. Mr. LUNNasked the Secretary for Mines how many separate funds are in existence which have been raised to support the dependants of those affected by colliery disasters in the United Kingdom; what are the names of the funds and the amount of money in their possession at the end of 1927; and will he set up an inquiry into the possible future use of those funds where there are now no dependants upon them?
§ Commodore KINGAs complete a return as possible of colliery relief funds was made by the Mines Department in 1925 (see House of Commons Paper 155/1925). I am sending the hon. Member a copy, and, if he will study it, he will see that the funds with money and without dependants are very few, and that, with the exception of one small fund, it is known that the money is serving a useful purpose. I am following up the one case referred to, but I do not think that a general inquiry such as is suggested is necessary.
