HC Deb 30 November 1927 vol 211 c502
54. Mr. SHEPHERD

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of probation officers appointed during the year 1926–27; the age and sex of these officers; and the character of their qualifications?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

Since 1st July, 1926, 19 men and 10 women, between the ages of 25 and 35, have been newly appointed as full-time probation officers. They were selected on the ground of previous experience in welfare and social work. I hope the hon. Member will not press me as to the individual ages of the women.
