HC Deb 29 November 1927 vol 211 cc267-8
56. Mr. HAYES

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he has received representations from the Royal Irish Constabulary Pensioners Association asking that the Royal Irish Constabulary Force Fund should be wound up and the proceeds applied for the benefit of existing widows and pensioners whose circumstances to-day, in view of present conditions, are rendered more difficult?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir William Joynson-Hicks)

I have been asked to reply. I have seen a copy of the document in question, but I am afraid I can add nothing to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on 31st May last.

Mr. HAYES

What is it proposed to do with the residue of the fund, amounting to about £250,000?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

If the hon. Gentleman will refer to my answer, he will see that I said that the fund was in process of being wound up, but that any scheme for the immediate distribution of the assets would be contrary to the interests of the widows and orphans for whose benefit the fund was intended.

Mr. THOMAS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether his right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has any knowledge of this fund?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I think not.
