HC Deb 29 November 1927 vol 211 c230
2. Mr. ALBERY

asked the President of the Board of Trade wehther he is aware of the considerable increase in the size of many of the vessels now navigating that portion of the River Thames crossed by the principal London bridges; and whether he will have inquiries made as to whether the present Regulations are sufficient to insure safe navigation, especially as regards foreign vessels?

Sir B. CHADWICK

I have been in communication with the Port of London Authority, who inform me that, while they have no statistics, it is a matter of observation that there is an increase in the size of many of the vessels now navigating the portion of the River Thames crossed by the principal London bridges. The Port Authority add that the question whether their present Regulations are sufficient to ensure safe navigation, especially as regards foreign vessels, is now engaging their attention, but up to the present their investigations have not proceeded sufficiently far to enable them to express a definite opinion on the question.
