HC Deb 29 November 1927 vol 211 cc239-40
16. Mr. GOODMAN ROBERTS

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, seeing that officers desirous of touring abroad on leave are ordered to give exact dates of their prospective arrival and departure and exact addresses at each place they may happen to visit before leave can be granted, he will see whether, in view of the impracticability of supplying such detailed information, instructions may be given to modify the number and extent of the questions asked?

Commodore KING

The general rule is that an officer granted leave to travel abroad must furnish exact addresses at which his Commanding Officer can communicate with him at any time. The rule is obviously desirable but, if special circumstances render it inappropriate, an officer may be permitted to give an address at home from which correspondence can be forwarded.
