HC Deb 29 November 1927 vol 211 c254
27. Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has received a memorandum from the barley milling trade protesting against the Regulations prohibiting the use of preservatives in food, as they will affect the milling and treatment of pearl barley in the manufacturing process, and requesting amendment of the Regulations to allow sulphur dioxide to be used as allowed for the manufacture of cornflour; and, if so, will he be prepared to meet a deputation of barley millers of Scotland with a view to giving his assistance in having the Regulations amended?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The answer to the first part of the questions is in the affirmative. As regards the second part I would refer the hon. Member to my reply on this subject given yesterday to the hon. Member for Leith (Mr. E. Brown).
