HC Deb 28 November 1927 vol 211 c9
25. Mr. WILFRID PALING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of Indian civilians in China, and particularly the number in Shanghai and Hong Kong?

Earl WINTERTON

In reply to a similar question asked recently in the Indian Legislative Assembly it was said that if reliance can be placed on a rough estimate made two years ago, the total number of Indian residents in China is about 5,000, of whom about 1,400 are in Shanghai and 1,150 in Hong Kong. My Noble Friend has no further information.
