asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the yield of the Betting Duty as received by the Treasury for the year ended the 31st October, 1927, on the amount of bets made liable to duty at the rate of 2 per cent, and liable to duty at the rate of 3½ per cent.?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Churchill)

The approximate amounts derived from the Betting Duty at the rates of 2 per cent, and 3½ per cent, during the year ended 31st October, 1927, were £712,000 and £1,812,000 respectively.

Colonel DAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say, in view of the statement made about the totalisator, whether he will consider an alteration of the rate of duty?

Mr. CHURCHILL

No, Sir, I am not prepared to make any statement on that subject now.
