§ 20. Sir JOHN POWERasked the Home Secretary whether he has given further consideration to the question of increasing the visibility of police constables on point duty at night?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSThe question has received further consideration by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, and white gauntlets have been issued to all constables engaged on traffic duties throughout the Metropolitan Police District. In addition, traffic coats with half white sleeves (from the elbow downwards) are being provided with all possible expedition to the officers in question for use during wet weather.
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSIn other parts of the country I have not the same powers. It is entirely a question for local administration.
§ Mr. HAYESIs the practice in the Metropolitan Police uniform with the practice of the City of London?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI think so, but I cannot carry it in my mind. I think I noticed it last night.
