HC Deb 10 November 1927 vol 210 c356
53. Major GLYN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is yet in a position to state the intention of the Government regarding the introduction of legislation to enable totalisator machines to be erected on racecourses, in accordance with the recommendation of the Jockey Club?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Churchill)

Yes, Sir. The Government have considered the Report of the Jockey Club Committee, and they have decided that if a Private Member's Bill authorising the establishment of a totalisator on racecourses is introduced next Session, and obtains a Second Reading on a free vote of the House of Commons, they will endeavour to provide facilities for its passage into law.
