HC Deb 26 May 1927 vol 206 c2179
3. Sir R. THOMAS

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the desirability at an early date of introducing legislation to check the growth of Sunday trading; and whether his attention has been drawn to a resolution to that effect by the National Chamber of Trade, at Buxton, on Monday, 16th May?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have seen the resolutions adopted by the National Chamber; but, as I have pointed out in replies to previous questions on the subject, the question is a highly controversial one, and I see little prospect at present of any Government legislation on the subject.

Mr. R. MORRISON

In view of the fact that there is little prospect of time being available for legislation, will the right hon. Gentleman consider the advisability of setting up a Committee to go into the question of the ramifications of Sunday trading?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

There is a Committee sitting on a somewhat cognate subject, and I think we might wait for their Report.
