HC Deb 25 May 1927 vol 206 cc1980-1
2. Mr. MARDY JONES

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for what reason instructions were issued to His Majesty's Legation at Peking to the effect that British subjects intending to travel from China to London should not proceed via Siberia at present?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

His Majesty's Minister at Peking was instructed to warn British subjects intending to travel via Siberia that they would do so at their own risk. A warning of this nature was amply justified by the anti-British demonstrations which have recently taken place at Moscow and Leningrad.

Mr. MARDY JONES

May I ask whether this instruction was not issued in intelligent anticipation of the break with Russia?
