HC Deb 23 May 1927 vol 206 cc1625-6
1. Colonel DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any information that will show when the bridge that is being constructed over the River Ravi will be opened, so that the North-western Railway, which is being constructed by the Punjab Government, can be extended to Narowal from Dehra Nanak?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

The whole of the Amritsar-Narowal Railway, including the section which crosses the Ravi, is expected to be completed in December, 1928.

Colonel DAY

In view of the great assistance this railway is to the food cultivators, cannot something be done to speed up the completion of the construction?

Earl WINTERTON

As I have told the hon. Member, it will be completed by December, 1928. If he will look at the details, he will see that that is as early as the railway can be completed.

Colonel DAY

How many miles have already been constructed?

Earl WINTERTON

If the hon. Member wants more details will he put down a question on the Order Paper?
