HC Deb 23 May 1927 vol 206 c1635
28. Mr. DIXEY

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that the Milk and Dairies Order is likely to cause considerable hardship to some of the fell farmers in Cumberland, who have to sell small quantities of milk to make their farms pay; and, if so, will he say if he proposes to take any action in the matter?

Mr. GUINNESS

I have received no complaints from Cumberland with regard to the operation of the Order, and I have no reason to believe that it will have the effect suggested by my hon. Friend. A considerable time must elapse before those provisions of the Order, which involve expenditure, become operative, and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health has issued a circular to local authorities expressing his confidence that they will use their discretion reasonably in administering the Order, particularly in cases where the quantity of milk sold is small.
